Microsoft has been warning Office 365 customers who are still using the public websites feature that they will be deleting them for a few years now. They have already been deactivated from use for a few years but now they are following through with their threats to delete them for those that are still using them. Bottom line, ensure that you migrate all of your Office 365 public websites off to another public website service provider – including your publicly exposed blogs by March 31, 2018.
Here is an excerpt of the message that was published as a Major Update to the Office 365 Message Center today:
As we have been communicating over the past three years, new Office 365 subscription plans no longer include the SharePoint Online public website feature, and existing websites will be deleted.
You are receiving this message because our reporting indicates your organization has a public website, which appears to have an active online presence.
[How does this affect me?]
On March 31, 2018, your public website will be deleted. People inside and outside your organization will no longer have access to the public website.
[What do I need to do to prepare for this change?]
Before March 31, 2018, you should make a backup copy of all your public website content, images, pages and files, so you don’t lose them permanently.
