Note: this issue has now been resolved -> Read: SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been “re”-released.

______________________________

Microsoft has identified a few issues with SP1 and recently updated their SP1 KB article with the following excerpt:

Notice
“We have recently uncovered an issue with this Service Pack 1 package that may prevent customers who have Service Pack 1 from deploying future public or cumulative updates. As a precautionary measure, we have deactivated the download page until a new package is published.”

This is pretty big news since Microsoft has recently touted this service pack as a necessary add-on to your SharePoint 2013 installation  as it “includes performance, reliability, and security fixes”.

Update: Bill Baer has posted more information in this blog post.

But please don’t panic!

For those admins that haven’t installed it, just wait a little while, Microsoft should have a patched SP1 version soon (or a patch for SP1).

For those admins that have a new installation and installed the SharePoint 2013 ISO with SP1 slipstreamed/built into the media, this should be unaffected (credit Todd Klindt’s blog post who spoke to Bill Baer with this information).

For those admins that already have installed it on top of their existing SharePoint 2013 RTM environment, Microsoft is working on a patch to the service pack which should be released soon and they will soon update the links with a patched version of the service pack download which resolves this problem.
