SharePoint Server 2007 vs. 2010 Feature Comparison Matrix

This post talks about the feature differences in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS 2007) versus SharePoint Server 2010.

If you would like to know the feature differences between the various versions of SharePoint 2010, go to my post entitled SharePoint 2010 Standard vs Enterprise vs Foundation Edition Feature Comparison Matrix

Not to be more confusing but for the SharePoint 2010 platform, Microsoft has gone and changed their “Pillars” or “Capabilities” that the platform is built on from [1]:

  1. Collaboration
  2. Portal
  3. Search
  4. Content Management
  5. Business Processes
  6. Business Intelligence

To [2]:

  1. Sites
  2. Communities
  3. Content
  4. Search
  5. Insights
  6. Composites

Clients are starting to ask me why they should upgrade to SharePoint 2010. Microsoft has published comparison matrixes online grouped by these capabilities but if you’re anything like me, you like seeing everything on one page instead of various sections. Here it is:

Thank you!

Hi,
I would like to thank you for your hard work in creating this comparison.
I work in a hospital and we are assessing SPS2010, SPF2010 and others for a document management, ECM and collaboration system.
Your work and layout has helped me greatly in understanding what we should look at, and I would like to ask for your permission to continue this work and ask others to contribute to it. Of course I would reference you and your blog.
May I request your reply to me.

best regards
Gregory
