Records Management features in SharePoint 2010: Part 5 – Site Collection Auditing

Overview

  • Configured under Site Settings  --> Site collection audit settings
  • Ability to generate a customized audit report about an individual record, item, column, content type, search or permissions
  • Ability to specify events to audit such as open, edit, check out/in, move, copy, delete & restore

  • Predefined reports in excel format under Site Settings --> Audit log reports

Records Management Scenario(s):

  • Heavy audits are required on items that have been declared a record, for legal reasons (i.e. decisions, invoices, bids, etc…)
  • A document has been deleted or changed and the administrator would like to figure out who deleted or changed document in question.
  • Site collection auditing features that allow document auditing can be used to figure out who opened, edited, checked out, moved, deleted or even searched for list items or documents
