Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Preview discontinued and modified functionality

Microsoft has posted a list of features and functionality have been discontinued or changed in SharePoint 2013 Preview.  I’m sure this list will get larger as we go along so keep checking.

Key things to note:

  • Document Workspace Site Template is no longer available by default, Microsoft assumes you should just use the team site (an administrator can allow it though).
  • Meeting Workspace templates are no longer available by default, Microsoft assumes you should just use the other collaboration features such as Lync, Team Sites, etc..(an administrator can allow it though).
  • Enterprise Content Management feature of insert barcode embedded in MS Word is no longer available as Microsoft states that the feature has minimal adoption
  • Enterprise Content Management feature of insert label embedded in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is no longer available as Microsoft states that the feature does not meet Records Management and Compliance expectations
  • PowerPoint Broadcast from SharePoint no longer supported from SharePoint servers as Microsoft states that it should be done from Lync.
  • SharePoint Web Analytics system will no longer be available as Microsoft states that the performance is not enterprise quality
  • Workbooks with external data connections that use delegated Windows authentication cannot be refreshed in the browser when view is set to Office Web Apps Server as Microsoft states that this is a design limitation
  • The ability to get an RSS feed of your search results in SharePoint is no longer available as Microsoft states there is new Search alerts and RSS feed functionality
  • The Group Work site template is no longer available by default, Microsoft assumes you should just use the team site (an administrator can allow it though).
  • The Personalization site template is no longer available by default, Microsoft assumes you should just use the team site (an administrator can allow it though).
  • Users will no longer be able to generate Microsoft Visio Pivot Diagrams directly from a SharePoint Task list as Microsoft states that there are new fields that aren’t supported by Visio.
  • The Visual Upgrade feature is no longer available but is being replaced by a deferred site collection upgrade feature.
  • The Chart Web Part is no longer available as Microsoft states that this can be done with other Office applications like Excel
  • The SharePoint status indicators and lists are no longer available as Microsoft states that this can be done with other Office applications like Excel
